A Mindful Trip to the Aromatherapy Side of the Street
There’s a great saying which states that not all heroes wear capes, but I’ll add that some come in drops of pure natural delight. Yes, essential oils have proven to be my heroes, saving the day in some many ways. I used to be one of those people who rely on sleeping pills in order to get the necessary z’s in their life. However, one day I realized that apart from differing from pill-free sleep in quality, this habit or lack of habit as later on turned out also revealed some unpleasant side-effects.
Luckily, I have a crazy cat person in my life who’s also a nutritionist and one of those tree-hugging people we all find weird sometimes. When she noticed that my little spelling problem was getting out of hand, she offered her advice and although reluctant at first, I decided to give it a try. She told me to take that one hour before sleep and be completely mindful about everything around me. This meant having to acknowledge all items and processes without jumping in the past of future. Being in the present moment, as some may say.
So I stared going off social media 100% an hour before going to bed every night. Preparing and drinking tea was also part of the routine, as well as stargazing through the window and writing my thoughts. Mindfulness means that your mind is full, but with all the right things. Not allowing yourself to judge the past or predict the future for full 60 minutes, puts a whole new perspective in your mind, which paves the way fro a restful end of the day.
And in order to make the feeling complete and address all senses, I turned to aromatherapy essential oils. With the help of a vaporizer, right before going to bed my bedroom smells like a fairyland. Apart from smelling nice, these aromatherapy essential oils of 100% natural origin have antibacterial and calming properties. My choice of blend consists of lavender, geranium and ylang ylang. Sleep has never felt better and although I have the whole process to thank for that, without the calling effect of aromatherapy, all would have been left to my bare will which is more often that not, weaker than what I’d want.
If you are struggling to get sleep the natural way, there’s another natural way and it’s 100% effective and harmless. A sanitizer, dreams and wonderful smell provider all in one.
