There are 30,000 parts in a single car, but the most frequently changed parts are the shocks. The Hilux shock absorbers differ from other types almost completely, but mostly in stiffness. Its rear shocks are very stiff as to allow it to support heavier weight.

The Hilux shock absorbers have two main functions, controlling the movement of springs and suspensions and keeping the tyres in contact with the ground. These are two very important tasks, so the shocks should be changed regularly after every 80,000 km or if one of the following defects occurs:

Noticeable tire shaking

A bouncy ride

Rocking when cornering or driving opposite a strong wind

Nose dive when breaking

Leaking fluid from shock or strut

To control the movement of springs and suspensions, shocks have a piston attached to the end of a piston rod that works against hydraulic fluids in the pressure tube. As the suspensions move up and down, the hydraulic fluid goes through little holes inside the piston. The holes allow only small quantities of liquid to seep through, slowing the piston down thus causing the spring and suspension movement to also be slowed down.

There is a big variety of Hilux shock absorbers to choose from, all with different power and meant for different driving styles. So before buying a shock absorber, it is beneficial to understand your choices.

Types of shock absorbers and how to use them:

Hydraulic Shocks – The most used and affordable shocks on the market, they are meant to be used for smooth, soft riding and are not recommended for off-road use.

Gas Shocks – Filled with Nitro-gas, these shockers are mostly used for track driving and trails.

Air Shocks – Used by towing and hauling trucks, they are only available for the back wheels.

Twin Tube – Designed to deliver a smooth, consistent ride while out on the road, the twin tubes are usually the original equipment of your car.

Monotube – Deemed to be more responsive than the twin tube, it is usually considered as an upgrade when compared. You’d want to get this if you like a more responsive vehicle, or for when you’re changing the original twin tube.

Duel Shock Absorbers – As the name specifies, it consists of two shock absorbers working together, this is most frequently used if you’re constructing an aggressive show truck or if you like fast, off-road driving.

No matter what type of mechanical work is being done on your ride, it is always a smart idea to check your shock absorbers, and change them if needed, keeping in mind they control the entire vehicle.

Because most people like to preserve their cars in the best state possible, many of them search for alternative ways to travel longer distances....

Because most people like to preserve their cars in the best state possible, many of them search for alternative ways to travel longer distances. Buses and trains are a bit overcrowded and plane flights are expensive, thus the best solution is to use car rental to completely enjoy a trip. After all, it is certainly more comfortable than sitting on a bus next to an old lady who speaks too much or an overweight guy who sleeps on your shoulder. Also, rented car is as safe and reliable as your own and you have an option of getting an insurance policy which is very flexible and covers minimum damages to the car, like paint and interior damage. But don’t get too comfortable, as you will be responsible for covering the cost of any serious damage.

Special occasion

When time comes for once in a lifetime event, like a wedding or a prom, the old semi-truck in your garage is not something you would use. Go to your local car rental service and pick a luxury car that will suit the occasion. It’s not about showing off, it’s more about making the day perfect – and details are what make things perfect, right?

Road trips

Whenever you organize a road trip there is a dilemma between you and your buddies – who will sacrifice a car? Well, while you are arguing over this issue, it is best to check out what your trusted car and van rentals have to offer. Pick a vehicle that will fit all of you, pack the things that you’ll need and hit the road for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Camping

Another type of a road trip is camping. These trips require additional equipment and items than a day spent in nature. Tents, food, cooking supplies, fishing rots and many other items cannot fit in the trunk of just one sedan or a hatchback. Luckily, car rental companies offer all kinds of pick up trucks at a decent price.

Moving to a new place

We know that there are companies that deal with this type of service, but if you take a minute to browse online for prices of renting a small truck or semi-truck you might change your plan. Some companies offer all kinds of vehicles, like truck and van rentals that can make your moving experience cheaper. Plus, you will not have to worry how underpaid employees of a moving company will treat your stuff while taking it in and out of the truck.

Vehicle inspections are thorough tests conducted on your vehicle to make sure it operates according to all government safety regulations. Drivers are obliged to do these inspections by law when registering a new vehicle. Moreover, every registered vehicle is subjected to inspection every year or two, depending on the geographical region. However, car inspections are done for other reasons as well. For instance, when it comes to used cars, people usually do pre purchase vehicle inspection to determine whether price reflects the true state of the car offered. Putting aside the fact that vehicle inspection is done periodically, you can always take your car to any inspection facility if you suspect any irregularities.

When people buy used cars, they usually ask about car’s overall condition and driven miles. This common way of determining the state of a car is not reliable since your conclusion on car’s condition is solely based on seller’s credibility. If seller tells you the truth, it’s all good. But having in mind that most car sellers try to hide even the smallest of defects in order to get the best possible selling price, it is best to conduct pre purchase vehicle inspection.

As mentioned above, state laws require vehicle inspections to be conducted in several cases: when registering a new vehicle; before transferring a registration from interstate (never mind the vehicle’s age); before re-registering the vehicle if registration expired or was deleted more than 12 months ago; and if a defect notice is issued. These rules are stated as a broad definition of a vehicle inspection in Australia. You should be aware that they can constantly change over time.

One important aspect of vehicle inspection are emission tests. These tests show if a vehicle is polluting the environment and compare pollution standards with parameters from the results. If car inspection shows negative results the vehicle will be able to take the tests after 60 days. Again, laws differ from state to state and may change over time.

In conclusion, vehicle inspections are preferable even if they are not regulated by law because they increase the selling price of a car and greater life expectancy of your vehicle.

When the time to sell your car comes, possible buyers will require documentation to check how well you have preserved your car. The best...

When the time to sell your car comes, possible buyers will require documentation to check how well you have preserved your car. The best way to show this is by presenting you car’s log book. With log book service the buyer can have a clear view of how and when your car was serviced and determine the real value behind the price. It is preferred for log book servicing to be done at official dealer auto services. However, if you wish, you can choose a different auto service that is qualified to do log book service by manufacturer’s criteria. These auto services have official certificates for doing this kind of work so you won’t have to worry about declination of your warranty. In addition we will explain some benefits of doing scheduled service.

Like we mentioned, log books provide information about every car check and repair that has been made according to manufacturer’s standards. That means that every broken part of your car has been replaced with the same original model and the possibility of fraud is very little. Also, when choosing to use log book service you are most likely to preserve your car’s warranty original expiration date which will only add more dollars to the selling price.

Another benefit is that you are not obliged to do these scheduled services only at official dealers. The freedom of choice lets you find auto service shops that will do log service for a lower price. You will save money but still same standards will be used during car checks and repairs. On the other hand you should be aware of fake auto shops claiming that they are authorized to do log book service. Before entrusting your car to them ask for documents as proof to their credibility. Better be certain than paying for false car service Melbourne auto shops are required to frame these certificates on walls in order to avoid suspicion of customers.

In conclusion, it is better to use log book service than to avoid it. We know that sometimes service at a corner garage can be much cheaper but over the years effects will start to show through damaged engine clips or exhaust system.

Maybe it sounds like a cliche, but car maintenance and regular engine checks can expand your car’s lifespan and add more miles. While most people completely trust their car dealer and mechanic shops, some prefer to do their own maintenance of the car. While some parts of the car are easy to understand and replace others require special knowledge and/or tools in order to complete inspections. One of these parts that requires special attention and is hard to notice for novice auto mechanics is the O2 (oxygen) sensor. This small, but very important part of the engine needs regular oxygen sensor test to determine its functionality. In order to learn how to do a sensor test or even perform an oxygen sensor replacement, one must first know how O2 sensors work.

Basically, the main reason for regular oxygen sensor test is that O2 sensors give information about the ratio of oxygen levels in the exhaust valve compared to the levels in the air outside the engine. This is an important indicator because it applies to the fuel economy of the car. In other words, it shows how effectively the car is using its fuel. Moreover, if the car uses more fuel in the engine, oxygen levels are very low and little O2 comes out of the exhaust pipe. In this case the O2 sensor creates voltage that normally is above 0.45 volts in order to maintain proper O2 levels. On the contrary when the engine runs low, oxygen levels are very high and cause more air to come out of the engine. Consequently, the O2 sensor provides voltage lower than 0.45. Another important condition is that in order for the O2 sensor to be functional, the car engine must achieve heat of about 600 degrees otherwise it won’t show any information on the output table.

Now that we have given a glance of how O2 sensors work we can see the need for making an oxygen sensor test or in some cases even oxygen sensor replacement. This is not very complex task and you only need a quality DC voltmeter to get proper results. Furthermore, cheap voltmeter may show distorter results which may cause false need of oxygen sensor replacement. So, what indicates that the O2 sensor is working or not? The most important thing is that the voltmeter shouldn’t show steady voltage at 0.45 or lower. This means that the sensor is not working as it should. A sign that everything is alright is when the voltmeter shows osculations around 0.45 volts meaning that it is regulating the levels of oxygen. Therefore, in conclusion the main reason to perform regular oxygen sensor test is to preserve fuel economy of the car so that it can serve you longer.

Cars are major part of our busy lives and are becoming more of a necessity rather then luxury as we are getting more dependable...

Cars are major part of our busy lives and are becoming more of a necessity rather then luxury as we are getting more dependable on them to complete our everyday tasks. With that in mind, what a bummer it would be if your car broke down on a way to a hospital or a dream job interview. A lot of people are not aware of the fact that cars need periodic thorough checkups aside from adding windshield washer fluid or oil change. Like all other machines, cars depreciate over time and must be maintained properly. To extend a life of your dream drive you must take it for regular automotive service.

Major reason to have automotive service done on your car is complete checkup from oil change to engine performance. You might think your car needs nothing more than a filter change because of that uncomfortable smell when you turn AC on or an oil change because of that screechy, loud sound it makes on a highway. You might get surprised once you visit your dealer or certified mechanic shop. Automotive service is very important since it can uncover hidden defects which may lead to a major malfunction and automatically increased cost. In addition, most shops offer free oil or filter change when you take your car for automotive service.

Regular oil change is important because it is vital in keeping the engine running properly. Also, oil is necessary to keep all engine parts lubricated so they don’t grind and therefore damage each other.
Filter change is as important since they collect all dirty particles contributing to overall car performance. Another reason for these regular tests is car belt changing. Car drive belts apart from being important part of engine are also used in numerous car accessories like water pump, air conditioner, power steering pump etc. Automotive service conducted on car belts is one of the main priorities when it comes to car maintenance, because if belt breaks the vehicle is completely dysfunctional.

Furthermore, automotive service includes a thorough tire checkup. Tires are not only considered an important part of a car and its performance but also one of more sensitive parts. They require more frequent checks because they are directly exposed to different harsh weather conditions. Tire performance is very important in overall car performance and quality driving. Many auto shops are keen to offer an advice on when is the right time to change tires or switch from one type to a different one depending on the road conditions.

More people need to be educated on the advantages of regular automotive service and inevitably benefit from taking care of their vehicles. Regular periodic checkups are necessity when it comes to car maintenance, longer vehicle service life and overall performance.
