Vinyl: The Reasons to Make It Your Bathroom Flooring Choice

Posted by Grace Evans

When it comes to the interior décor, it’s not always just about furniture and decorations we have to think about – not when there are bigger details to think about, like flooring. It’s more of a difficult task in the case of the bathroom. Sure, there are the same aspects as with the other parts of the home, such as cost, durability, and style, however there’s another one that greatly influences the choice of flooring in the end: water, lots and lots of water!

Go for the wrong flooring, and you immediately have an investment that goes into water (literally!). Taking this into consideration, there’s one option that stands out from others in a flooring shop: vinyl. Appearing to be authentic wood, slate, or granite, thanks to the true-to-life detail, vinyl provides outstanding superiority to hardwood, slate, and granite, in terms of waterproof durability as it was created for the unpredictable (read: water), so you don’t only get the looks, but functionality too.

Sure, there are other types of flooring that would catch your eye in a flooring shop, but there are different types of vinyl too that you can choose from. For instance, depending on how much of a DIY enthusiast you are, you can opt for the easy-to-install luxury vinyl planks, or the sheet vinyl that’s best left in the hands of professionals.

Then again, there’s also another distinction about them to have in mind, in terms of how much humidity there is in your bathroom; when there’s more humidity, it’s advisable to opt for the sheet vinyl because there are no seams. If you’re looking for 100% waterproof backing, count on cork and plastic for that needed protection.

Unlike laminate and hardwood, it’s nonporous, so you wouldn’t have to worry about moisture absorption that usually results in warps. In addition to this, there’s also no damage to the subfloor due to no water penetrating the surface. Overtime, the only damage you could expect to have is bending, but as opposed to other floor options, it doesn’t break, and isn’t so costly to fix or replace.

More on the pros of vinyl flooring, there’s the soft and warm touch, even when walking barefoot, we could all do well with especially right after waking up, and right before going to bed at night. This is the kind of comfort you don’t get in your bathroom with other flooring types. Don’t forget it’s also easy to maintain and clean, so there’s no fuss when it comes to hygiene.
